Movie Thoughts: Encanto

Cute overall. So nice to see characters busting into pop songs with acid-trip visuals just like my childhood. That’s something that will never get old. I mentioned last June that I’m over Lin Manuel Miranda, and I am, but these songs are fine/okay/do their job. Had the one about the crazy uncle stuck in my head for a day.

This movie’s got perfect corporate sheen. It hits all the plot points. It’s well made but I can’t help but feel it’s lacking something. I repeat myself — it’s well executed but it lacks soul. It’s also short, which I admire; this was the first movie in a long time where…
