Movie Thoughts: Nightmare Alley
What a great old movie this is. So nice to say that.
Guillermo Del Toro is one of the most reliable filmmakers working. I love hearing him talk about making movies. He loves the process the way a filmmaker should, somehow managing to blend childlike wonder-fantasy with down and dirty, world-weary noir.
This movie is the opposite of Don’t Look Up in that it’s a simple story that loves its characters. It gives its A-listers something good to work with and lets them work their magic. Lots of (if not most) movies don’t do that nowadays — the characters…
